Murphy scores in 500 free for Judges on UAA Day 2

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Brandeis University swimming and diving team had three individual scoring performances on the first two days of the 2015 University Athletic Association championships at Emory University.

      Highlighting the first two days of competition was senior Max Fabian (Keene, N.H./Oak Meadow)in the 500-yard freestyle. Fabian finished 22nd in the event with a time of 4:41.68, lowering his own school record by 1.08 seconds. He was two seconds faster in the finals than his preliminary time.

      The Judges had one other individual score points in a swimming event. Sophomore Joanna Murphy (Sarasota, Gla./Riverview) also scored in the 500 free, placing 24th with a time of 5:16.22.

      Brandeis's top individual scoring performance of the first two days of action came on Wednesday, when rookie diver Sam Zucker (Omaha, Neb./Anderson) took 11th place in the 1-meter diving event. His score of 248.90 was a collegiate best.

      The Judges also had three relays finish in eighth place. In the men's 200 free relay, it was the team of junior Brian Luk (Hong Kong/Northfield Mount Hermon), sophomore Cameron Braz (Monson, Mass./Monson), and rookies Evan Thom (Natick, Mass./Natick) and Abu Batjargal (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) who finished in 1:27.21.

      In the women's 400 medley relay, rookie Amy Sheinhait (Framingham, Mass./Framingham), junior Fallon Bushee Malden, Mass. / Mystic Valley Regional Charter Sch.), rookie Sherry Tu (Guangdong, China / Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women) and Murphy were eighth in 4:15.11. In the men's 400 medley, it was sophomore Edan Zitelny (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset), rookie Adib Milani (Vienna, Va./Marshall), Luk and Braz, who placed in the top eight with a time of 3:35.61.

In total, the Judges had 24 lifetime-best performances from their 27 individual racers. The squads were in eighth place after Day Two of the meet, the men with 129 points, the women with 89. The meet continues through Saturday.
