Kylie Herman paces women's swimming at WPI Invite

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's swimming and diving team spent their weekend competing at the WPI Invitational. The Judges earned 408.5 points to finish in 10th place among a field of Division II and III squads.

The Judges were led  by rookie Kylie Herman (Weston, Fla. / Cypress Bay), who scored 96 points on the day with top-20 performances in five different events, three freestyle and two butterfly. Herman's top swim came in the 500-yard freestyle, where she placed 14th overall with a time of 5:17.30. She was 15th in the 200 butterfly with a mark of 2:17.17. Herman had two 16th-place finishes in the 100 fly (1:01.93) and 200 free (2:00.00) and rounded out her scoring with an 18th-place finish in the 50 free (55.98 seconds).

Junior Joanna Murphy (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview) added points in four different events, including an 11th place finish in her first crack at the 1,650-free of the season. She swam 18:31.25 in the event. In the 500 free, Murphy came in 20th in 5:30.34. She added a 23rd-place finish in the 400 individual medley (4:56.11 and 24th in the 200 free (2:02.07).

Senior Fallon Bushee (Malden, Mass. / Mystic Valley Regional Charter Sch.) scored in the three freestyle sprints. She reached one of two A finals for the Judges at the meet in the 50 free, placing 10th with a time of 25.64 seconds. Bushee was 15th in the 100 free (55.54 seconds) and 26th in the 200 (2:03.56).

Sophomore Amy Sheinhait (Framingham, Mass. / Framingham) had the team's best performance of the weekend, placing eighth in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 28.97 seconds. Sheinhait also joined Bushee by scoring in the 50 free with a time of 25.71 seconds. Classmate Sherry Tu (Guangdong, China / Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women (N.Y.)  also scored in the 50 back coming in 15th in 29.98 seconds.

The team's top relay performance came in the 400 free, where they finished in 12th place with a time of 3:48.10. The quartet was Herman, Murphy, sophomore Abby Damsky (New York, N.Y. / The Brearley School) and Bushee.

The Judges are off from their dual-meet schedule until January 20, when they meet Colby College, but they will be headed to Dorado, Puerto Rico for their intersession training trip from January 1 through 8.
