Swimming drops home meets to Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis swimming and diving teams competed in a dual meet against cross-town rivals Bentley University on Saturday afternoon. The Judges won a combined nine individual races, but both teams fell to the visiting Falcons. The men's score was 162-132 while the women's score was 188-99.

On the women's side, junior Bailey Gold (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) was the big winner. Gold won both of her individual events: 200-yard butterfly (2:10.23) and 100-yard butterfly (59.55). Gold, joined by sophomore Monica Iizuka (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham), senior Olivia Stebbins (Willington, Conn. / Edwin O. Smith High School), and junior Ema Rennie (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Scioto), took home the 200-yard Medley Relay in a time of 1:52.53. The women's team boasted an impressive 17 season-best times across the meet.

The men's team had four individual event winners. Senior Brendon Lu (Basking Ridge, N.J. /Ridge) won three races: 100-yard breaststroke (59.47), 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.37), and 200-yard Individual Medley (1:59.93). Sophomore Sam Dienstag (Wilmette, Ill. /New Trier) won two individual races: 1000-yard freestyle (9:50.98) and 500-yard Freestyle (4:47.74). Senior Benton Ferebee (Germantown, Tenn. /Memphis University School) won one individual race: 100-yard backstroke (54.46). Junior James Barno (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa) won one individual race: 100-yard butterfly (52.97). Dienstag and Ferebee, joined by sophomore Ido Petel (New York, N.Y. / Frank McCourt) and first-year Andrew Ngo (San Gabriel, Calif. / Gabrielino) also added a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, besting Bentley's A squad with a time of 1:29.51. The men's team totaled 11 season-best times across the meet.

The Judges return to action next weekend with back-to-back away meets Saturday, November 20th, and Sunday, November 21st, when they swim the United States Coast Guard Academy and Tufts University, respectively.
