WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis swimming and diving teams celebrated their Senior Day on Friday night against Gordon College. The Judges won both meets on the day with the men's team taking the meet 130-47 and the women's team taking the meet 160-76.
On the women's side, seniors Olivia Stebbins (Willington, Conn. / Edwin O. Smith) and Gabriela Mendoza (Surprise, Ariz. / Paradise Honors) were the top performers on the day. Stebbins swept the breaststroke events, winning the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 34.07 and the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.29. Mendoza won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:53.47. The women's 200-yard freestyle relay also took first with seniors Mendoza, Rebecka Sokoloff (Northborough, Mass. / Bancroft School of Academics), Stebbins, and Abbie Etzweiler (Malvern, Pa. / Great Valley) going a time of 1:57.98.
On the men's side, seniors led the day in their last home meet for the Judges. Senior Brendon Lu (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) swept the breaststroke events, winning the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 26.94 and the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.81. Senior Benton Ferebee (Germantown, Tenn. / Memphis University School) won the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 24.85. Both senior relays won as well today. The 200-yard medley relay team of seniors Ferebee, Jonathan Ayash (Newton, Mass. / Newton South), Sean Riordan (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy), and Lu won with a time of 1:43.09 and the same group won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.52.
The Judges return to action Thursday, February 10 in Atlanta, Georgia for the UAA conference championships.
