WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Sam Dienstag of Wilmette, Illinois, and senior Bailey Gold of Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, have been named the University Athletic Association Men's and Women's Swimmers of the Week for their performances at the 2022 Hartwick Relays over the weekend.

Dienstag helped the Brandeis men win the Hartwick Relays as part of four of the team's eight winning races. He anchored an 850 freestyle relay that won by 26 seconds (7:41.01); swam the second leg on the 200 free relay that won by 0.38 seconds (1:28.47); opened the 800 free relay team that won by 47 seconds (8:21.98); and the 400 free relay that won by about 1.5 seconds (3:19.53). Brandeis won the meet by 22 points over host Hartwick. Dienstag's 500-yard split of 4:39 in the 850 race would rank among the top five in Division III this season if swam as an individual event.

Gold helped the Brandeis women win the Hartwick Relays by contributing to four of the team's 10 wins, swimming butterfly in each race. She swam the butterfly leg of the 400 medley relay that won by nine seconds (4:09.58); the lead leg of a 3x100 fly relay that won by about 4 seconds (3:07.39); and legs of the 200 medley relay that won by 2.5 seconds (1:53.98); and the 800 medley relay that won by 40 seconds (9:13.95). Her split in the 200 fly would rank among the top 15 nationally if swum in an individual race.

This is the first UAA Athlete of the Week honor for either swimmer.

Brandeis returns to action this weekend for their first dual meet of the season at Vassar College on Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.

Dienstag is a 2020 graduate of New Trier High School.

Gold is a 2019 graduate of Governor Livingston High School.
