WORCESTER, Mass. – The Brandeis men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to WPI today to take on a host of other teams. The men competed against Babson College, The United States Coast Guard Academy, and WPI, while the women competed against Babson, Coast Guard, WPI, and Smith College. The men lost all three dual meets, while the women won two of the four. The scores for the men were Brandeis vs WPI: 137-153, Brandeis vs Coast Guard: 89-201, and Brandeis vs Babson: 127-163, while the scores for the women were Brandeis vs Smith: 178-107, Brandeis vs Coast Guard: 99-184, Brandeis vs Babson: 170-100, and Brandeis vs WPI: 145-147.
On the women's side, the top performers of the day were senior Bailey Gold (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) and first-year Audrey Teo (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto). Gold swept the butterfly events again today, winning the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.40 and the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.27. Gold also joined up with Teo, junior Monica Iizuka (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham), and senior Ema Rennie (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Scioto) to get second place in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:05.49. Gold Rennie, first-year Jenna Wild (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township), and sophomore Chloe Gonzalez (Miami Beach, Fla. / Miami Beach Senior) to place 3rd in the 400-yard free relay with a time of 3:45.05. Teo placed fourth in both breaststroke events with a time of 1:11.86 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:36.03 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
On the men's side, the top performers of the day were junior Sam Dienstag (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) and first-year Benjamin Lee (Upton, Mass. / Nipmuc Regional). Dienstag swept the distance events with times of 9:28.23 in the 1000-yard free and 4:37.87 in the 500-yard free. He also placed second in the 100-yard free with a time of 48.23. Dienstag was a part of the 400-yard medley relay with senior Benton Ferebee (Germantown, Tenn. / Memphis University School), sophomore Andrew Ngo (San Gabriel, Calif. / Gabrielino), and first-year Eric Xiao (College Station, Texas / AM Consolidated), taking second place with a time of 3:35.11. Lee placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.08 and third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:57.04. Lee also paired up with Ferebee, Ngo, and Xiao to take third place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:16.17.
The Brandeis swim and dive teams are back in action next Friday, November 11th when they travel to take on cross-town rival, Bentley University.
