WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis swim and dive teams had a short trip tonight, taking on cross-town rivals, Bentley University. The Judges set a total of five meet records and three pool records but dropped the meet on both the men's and women's sides. The score for the men was 181-114 in favor of the Falcons, while the score for the women was Bentley 170, Brandeis 123.
The top performers on the women's side were senior Bailey Gold (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) and sophomore Chloe Gonzalez (Miami Beach, Fla. / Miami Beach Senior). Gold swept the butterfly events once again. She won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.36 and the 100-yard butterfly with a meet-record time of 59.23. She was also joined on the 200-yard medley relay by junior Monica Iizuka (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham), first-year Audrey Teo (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto), and senior Ema Rennie (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Scioto) where they won and set a pool record with a time of 1:50.56. Gold and Rennie were also a part of the 200-yard freestyle relay with first-years Nicole Caruso (Brentwood, Tenn. / Ravenwood) and Jenna Wild (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township). They took first place in that one too with a time of 1:42.08.
For Gonzalez, she won the 100-yard freestyle with a meet record time of 54.32. She also finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in a race where the top four finishers were all under the previous meet record time. Rennie won that and got the record with a time of 24.58.
On the men's side, the top performers of the night were junior Sam Dienstag (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) and sophomore Andrew Ngo (San Gabriel, Calif. / Gabrielino). Dienstag won both of his individual events while also setting meet and pool records in both. Dienstag took the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:29.59 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:38.33. Dienstag was also joined by senior Benton Ferebee (Memphis, Tenn. / Memphis University School), Ngo, and first-year Eric Xiao (College Station, Texas / AM Consolidated) on the 200-yard medley relay, taking second with a time of 1:37.93. Dienstag and Ferebee also swam the 200-yard freestyle relay with first-year Benjamin Lee (Upton, Mass. / Nipmuc Regional), and senior Sean Riordan (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy), taking second with a time of 1:28.85. For Ngo, he won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.12, narrowly out-touching a Bentley swimmer. He and Lee also took first and second in the 200-yard individual medley with Ngo taking the win with a time of 2:01.41.
The Judges are back in action Saturday, November 19th when they host the United States Coast Guard Academy at 1 PM.
