Judges Take Down Visiting Skyhawks

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Judges women's swim team took on the visiting Stonehill College Skyhawks tonight in a sprint meet, while the men's swim team competed in an intersquad meet. The women won their matchup 79-48 to improve to 4-6 on the season.

 

On the women's side, the standout performers of the night were first-year Becca Kaplan (Fairfax, Va. / Robinson Secondary School) and junior Monica Iizuka (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham). Kaplan took first place in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 31.63. She also took second place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.13 and fifth in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:03.60. Iizuka took first place in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 28.24 and sixth place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.31. Iizuka and Kaplan teamed up with seniors Bailey Gold (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) and Ema Rennie (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Scioto) to win the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:51.18. Later in the meet Iizuka and Rennie also teamed up with first-year Nicole Caurso (Brentwood, Tenn. / Ravenwood High School) and sophomore Chloe Gonzalez (Miami Beach, Fla. / Miami Beach Senior High School) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.08.

 

On the men's side, the top performers of the night were senior Benton Ferebee (Memphis, Tenn. / Memphis University School) and first-year Eric Xiao (College Station, Texas / AM Consolidated High School). Ferebee won both the 50-yard backstroke and the 50-yard butterfly with times of 24.57 and 24.69, respectively. He also took fifth place in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 57.52. Xiao won both the 50-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard individual medley with times of 26.85 and 54.84, respectively. He also took third place in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 25.57 and tied for second place in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 24.70. In the 200-yard medley relay, sophomore Andrew Ngo (San Gabriel, Calif. / Gabrielino High School), junior Leone Kisler (Framinham, Mass. / Framingham), first-year AJ Martinez (North Miami Beach, Fla. / NSU University School), and junior Sam Dienstag (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) won with a time of 1:43.29. Later in the meet, Ferebee and Xiao teamed up with sophomores Gerald Deng (Rego Park, N.Y. / Bronx High School of Science) and Tal Spector (Phoenix, Ariz. / Herberger Young Scholars Academy) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:33.16.

  

The Judges return to action this Saturday, January 21 when they take on Keene State and Bridgewater State at 1:00 PM.
