Judges Defeat Bridgewater State and Keene State in Annual Tri-Meet

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Brandeis swim and dive teams traveled today to take on Bridgewater State and Keene State in their annual tri-meet. The Judges won all four individual meets on the day. The women defeated Bridgewater 178-107 and Keene 149-138. The men beat Bridgewater 134-133 and Keene 152-111.

 

On the women's side, some stand out performers on the day were first-year Becca Kaplan (Fairfax, Va. / Robinson Secondary School) and junior Maya Haubrich (Grayslake, Ill. / Grayslake). Kaplan won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 32.16. She also took second place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:38.26. Haubrich won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:30.38. She also took second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:04.11. Kaplan also teamed up with junior Monica Iizuka (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) and seniors Bailey Gold (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) and Ema Rennie (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Scioto) in the 200-yard medley relay, taking first with a time of 1:52.54. First-year diver Summer Coronesi (Kihei, Hawaii / Kihei Charter) took second place in the 1-meter diving, her best placement of the year, with a score of 196.85.

 

On the men's side, some stand out performers were senior James Smith (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington High School) and sophomore Gerald Deng (Rego Park, N.Y. / Bronx High School of Science). Smith won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.47 and the 50-yard fly with a time of 23.31. Deng took first place in the 100-yard fly with a time of 56.38. Smith also team up with senior Benton Ferebee (Memphis, Tenn. / Memphis University School), first-year Eric Xiao (College Station, Texas / AM Consolidated High School), and junior Sam Dienstag (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) to take first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:37.37. First-year diver David Zavala (Bridgeport, Ala. / Collins Hill High School) won the 1-meter diving with a score 139.50, his first win of the season.

 

The Judges return to action next Saturday, January 28 at 2:00 PM when they take on Clark University on Senior Day.
