ATLANTA, Ga. – The Brandeis swim and dive teams competed in Day Three of the UAA Championship meet today at Emory University. The Judges broke two more school records on the day. The men are currently in eighth place with 301 points, while the women are also in eighth place with 280 points.
The women's team had four individual finalists today. First-year Nicole Caruso (Brentwood, Tenn. / Ravenwood High School) made it to the C final of the 400-yard individual medley, placing 18th at night with a time of 4:36.70. In the 100-yard butterfly, sophomore Chloe Gonzalez (Miami Beach, Fla. / Miami Beach Senior High School) swam in the C final, finishing 20th with a time of 58.50, while senior Bailey Gold (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) swam in the B final, finishing 15th with a time of 57.78. Junior Monica Iizuka (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) tied for first in the C final of the 100-yard backstroke, placing 17th overall with a time of 58.27. For the relay, Iizuka, Gold, and Gonzalez teamed up with first-year Becca Kaplan (Fairfax, Va. / Robinson Secondary School) on the 200-yard medley relay where they finished seventh with a time of 1:47.86.
On the men's side, senior Benton Ferebee (Memphis, Tenn. / Memphis University School) broke the 50-yard backstroke school record leading off the 200-yard medley relay in the morning with a time of 23.53, 0.01 seconds faster than the previous record. In finals, Ferebee was joined by first-year Eric Xiao (College Station, Texas / AM Consolidated High School), senior James Smith (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington High School), and junior Sam Dienstag (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) on the relay where they finished seventh in a new school record time of 1:32.99, 0.53 seconds faster than the previous record. Individually, Smith placed 21st in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.30. Dienstag was joined in the 200-yard freestyle C final by first-year Benjamin Lee (Upton, Mass. / Nipmuc Regional High School). The two placed 22nd and 23rd, respectively, with Dienstag going 1:41.86 and Lee going 1:42.97. Sophomore Andrew Ngo (San Gabriel, Calif. / Gabrielino) finished 22nd in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 57.83. To end the night, Ferebee placed 20th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.75.
The Judges return to action tomorrow with the final day of the UAA Championship meet. Prelims start at 10 AM and finals start at 6 PM.
