WALTHAM, MASS. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches to two top-five nationally ranked opponents in  Amherst College and Tufts University this weekend.  On Saturday the Judges fell to the No. 1 Lord Jeffs, 8-1, in a match played at Wellesley College.  Today the No. 5 Jumbos topped Brandeis 8-1. With the losses, the Judges fall to 9-5 on the season.  Amherst's record stands at 7-1 and Tufts' record improves to 7-2.

Today, rookie Allyson Bernstein (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) picked up Brandeis' sole victory over Tufts  in the fourth position of singles action.  Bernstein went 5-7, 6-4, (10-5) over Eliza Flynn (Hamilton, Mass./Phillips Andover).  Senior Rachel Rosman (Bonita Springs, Fla./Estero), ranked 11th in the Northeast, pushed third-ranked Julia Browne (Old Brookville, N.Y./Friends Academy) to a tiebreaker set with a win in the first match before falling 2-6, 6-4, (10-3).

In their 8-1 loss to Amherst, the Judges grabbed their only win in doubles action.  Rookies Alexa Katz (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends) and Roberta Bergstein (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) topped Kim Snyder (Newton, Mass./Buckingham Browne and Nichols) and Charlotte Wilinsky (Florence, Mass./Williston Northampton) 8-5 in the third spot.  In singles, senior Mackenzie Gallegos (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) pushed Carlissa King (Bayside, N.Y./Midwood), ranked 20th in the Northeast,  to  three sets in their third seed match-up, earning the win in the second set, before falling to King 6-4, 0-6, 6-4. Katz put up a fight in the third position before falling to her opponent 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

The Judges are in action again on April 10 when they travel to Trinity College.

Tufts hosts Bowdoin College on April 8.

Amherst plays Colby College on April 16 at Colby.
