Brandeis women's drops match to nationally rank MIT, 6-3

WALTHAM, MASS. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team suffered a loss last night in their last home contest before heading to the University Athletic Association Championship tournament on Friday. The loss drops the Judges to 10-7 on the season, while the Engineers, ranked 27th in the nation according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association DIII poll, improves to 14-4.

Senior Rachel Rosman (Bonita Springs, Fla./Estero) and sophomore Faith Broderick (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) picked up the Judges' only win in doubles action, defeating rookie Lauren Quisenberry (Corpus Christi, Texas/Gregory-Portland) and Candace Wu (Yorba Linda, Calif./Valencia HS), ranked sixth in the north east, 8-4.  

In singles, rookie Allyson Bernstein (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) took a win for Brandeis in the fourth spot, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-2.  Junior Nina Levine (Westport, Conn./Staples) fought for a victory over senior Melissa Diskin (Newport News, Va./Warwick) taking down her MIT challenger, 5-7, 7-6 (5), 10-3 in the sixth spot.  In the third position, senior Mackenzie Gallegos (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) pushed her opponent to three sets, taking a win in the first set before falling to Julia Hsu (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut High School) 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. 

The Judges are in action again on Friday in their first match of the UAA women's tennis championships against Carnegie Mellon University.

MIT's next contest is on Saturday when they host Simmons College.
