WALTHAM, Mass. -- The 24th-ranked Brandeis women's tennis team outlasted No. 30 Wellesley College, 5-4, in a six-and-a-half hour marathon match. The Judges picked up their first win over a nationally-ranked team after four losses to improve to 2-5. The Blue fall to 9-4.

Brandeis jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles action. Juniors Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) and Simone Vandroff (Moss Beach, Calif./Half Moon Bay) took an 8-4 win in the top spot, while seniors Allyson Bernstein (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and Marissa Lazar (Hewlett, N.Y./Lynbrook) were 8-5 winners at No. 2. Wellesley got on the board with an 8-6 win at third doubles by the duo of Samantha Stone and Kendall Tada.

In the first set of three singles matches, the Blue evened the match at 3-3. Cooke defeated Sojung Lee of Wellesley, 6-2, 6-3, winning the final six games of the second set to put Brandeis ahead by two points. The Blue won the next two matches, with Andjela Stojkovic topping senior Roberta Bergstein (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) at No. 3, 6-4, 6-3, and Carina Chen coming back to defeat Bernstein at No. 2, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6, 7-4 in the tiebreaker.

In the second flight of singles action, Brandeis sophomore Emily Eska (Princeton, Mass./Wachusett Regional) had the easiest singles match of the day at No. 5, losing just two games as she defeated Stone, 6-1, 6-1. The match was finally decided at No. 4, where Vandroff completed a 2-0 day by rallying past Lina Ye, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3. Vandroff took the second-set tiebreaker, 7-5. The final match of the day to finish saw senior Alexa Katz (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends) knock off Tada, 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 in a third-set super tiebreaker.

The Judges return to action tomorrow at UAA rival NYU at 1 p.m.
