BABSON PARK, Mass. – In its final tuneup before the Nor'Easter Tournament this weekend, the No. 24 Brandeis women's tennis team defeated Babson, 7-2, last night. The Judges, ranked No. 9 in the Northeast, improved to 4-7 on the season. The Beavers, ranked twentieth in the region, fell to 9-7 in their first match of the spring season.

Brandeis started quickly, taking two out of the three doubles matches. Juniors Carley Cooke (San Diego Calif./Point Loma) and Simone Vandroff (Moss Beach, Calif./Half Moon Bay), the No. 6 doubles team in the region, rolled to an 8-4 win at No. 1. Sophomore Emily Eska (Princeton, Mass./Wachusset Regional) and senior Roberta Bergstein (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) earned an 8-6 win at No. 3, while seniors Allyson Bernstein (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and Marissa Lazar (Hewlett, N.Y./Lynbrook) fell to Tori Paolino and Alexis Ferraro at No. 2 by the same score.

Bernstein got her revenge in singles, defeating Sarah Whitaker, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5). That was the only singles match that went to three sets, as the Judges made quick work of the Beavers in taking five of the six singles matches. Cooke won at No. 1, 7-6 (7-3), 6-0. Bergstein won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3, while Eska won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4. Sophomore Hannah Marion (Hillsborough, N.C./Cedar Ridge) earned the call at No. 6 and had the easiest win of the day, 6-3, 6-0.

Paolino was a double winner, as she defeated senior Alexa Katz (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends), 6-0, 7-5, at No. 5.

The Judges will host the Nor'Easter Bowl this weekend, beginning tomorrow with a 2 p.m. match vs. No. 19 Skidmore. Brandeis and Wellesley College co-host the annual tournament, which will also feature No. 4 Amherst, No. 14 Trinity, No. 17 MIT, No. 30 Bates, and Babson. Saturday and Sunday's matchups and times will be based on Friday's results.
