ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The Brandeis University women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Case Western Reserve University today in the fifth-place match of the 2014 University Athletic Association championship tournament. The Judges close their regular season with a record of 11-10, while Case wraps at 10-10.

The Spartans jumped ahead in doubles action, winning at No. 1 and 2  by identical 8-4 scores. Brandeis's lone point came at No. 3, where juniors Dylan Schlesinger (Miami, Fla./Palmetto) and Simone Vandroff (Moss Beach, Calif./Half Moon Bay) were extended to a tiebreaker where they cruised, 9-8 (7-1). 

In singles play, the Judges picked up wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 4, but not before Case was able to pick up their three wins to clinch the match. Brandeis junior Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) improved to 8-0 lifetime at No. 1 singles in conference play with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Marianne Bonnano to avenge a doubles defeat. Senior Allyson Bernstein (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) took a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2, while sophomore Emily Eska (Princeton, Mass./Wachusett Regional) claimed a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 4.

Case's wins came at No. 6, where Michelle Dhojan defeated Maya Vasser (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) without losing a game, 6-0, 6-0; No. 3 with Taylor Sweeny knocking off Roberta Bergstein (Hingham, Mass./Hingham), 6-3, 6-1; and the clinching match at No. 5, where Surya Khadilkar topped Vandroff, 6-2, 6-4.
