CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Brandeis University junior Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Individual Tournament today at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. Cooke becomes the first woman in school history to win a match at the NCAA tournament. She earns All-America honors for the fourth time in her career - the third in singles, plus once in doubles.

Taking on junior Casey Johnson of Texas-Dallas, Cooke dropped just three games in the entire match. She set the tone early with a break in the second game of the match and took an early 3-0 lead. After Johnson won the next game, Cooke won three more in a row to earn a 6-1 win in the first set. Johnson won the first game of the second set, but Cooke reeled off four in a row to take control, easing to a 6-2 win in the second set.

Cooke advanced to face the tournament's second seed, Sonja Meighan of Washington and Lee in the second round. Meighan outlasted Brenna Sheldon of Oberlin, 7-5, 7-6, in the Round of 32.

In the second round, Cooke was unable to find the same rhythm as she did in the first match as Meighan prevailed, 6-1, 6-0. Cooke ends her season with a 15-6 record, the fourth-best winning percentage since 2005-06.
