#26 women's tennis drops a pair over weekend

The 26th-ranked Brandeis women's tennis team dropped a pair of 9-0 matches on the road at nationally-ranked opponents over the weekend. The Judges fell at No. 16 MIT on Friday night and at No. 10 Middlebury on Sunday afternoon.

Against MIT (11-1), the Judges had a chance to take two points in doubles action when they took matches to tiebreakers. At No. 1, senior Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) and rookie Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J./Laurel Springs) took Elysa Kohrs and Victoria Tam to 9-8 but suffered a 7-0 defeat in the tiebreaker.  At No. 3, rookie Charlotte Aaron (Phoenix, Ariz./Arcadia) and sophomore Sarita Biswas (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) were even with Dora Tzeng and Krystal Lai before falling 9-8 (7-1).  

In singles action, the Engineers won all six matches in straight sets, with Brandeis winning four games each at Nos. 1, 3 and 4.

Against Middlebury (3-0), the closest doubles match was at No. 3, where Aaron and Biswas lost to Alexandra Field and Lauren Amos, 8-4. Cooke challenged the Panthers' Ria Gerger at No. 1 singles, but fell 6-4, 6-2.

Brandeis is now 1-5 on the season with each of their losses coming to opponents above them in the ITA Division III national rankings. The Judges head to Wesleyan (Conn.) Friday at 1 p.m.
