ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The #27 Brandeis women's tennis team played a marathon match last night, as the Judges dropped a 9-0 decision to #11 Washington University in the first round of the 2015 University Athletic Association tournament. 

Because of nearly five-and-a-half hours of rain delays, the match, which started at 9:00 a.m., didn't finish until ater 7:30 at night. 

The Judges dropped all three doubles matches, with junior Sarita Biswas (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) and rookie Charlotte Aaron (Phoeniz, Ariz./Arcadia) playing the closest match at No. 3, falling 8-4.

In singles action, WashU took the No. 3 through 6 matches in straight sets to clinch their berth in the semifinals early. At No. 1 and 2, however, the Judges and Bears played a pair of three-set marathons. At the top spot, senior Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) took on Washington's Rebecca Ho. Cooke won the first set, 6-4, but Ho won the second, 6-3. In the third set, Cooke was up 5-4, but Ho rallied and won the last three games to earn a 7-5 victory.

At No. 2, a similar situation pitted Brandeis rookie Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J./Laurel Springs) and Jamie Silverberg of the Bears. Silverberg won the first set, 6-2, but Cohen bounced back in the second, 6-4. Cohen owned a 5-4 lead in the third and was serving at 30-0, but couldn't hang on, as Silverberg also closed with three straight games for a 7-5 victory.

Sixth-seeded Brandeis, which falls to 10-9 on the season, will meet the University of Rochester, the seventh seed, in the consolation semifinals. Washington at 17-4, will meet Carnegie Mellon in a battle of the second and third seeds, in the championship semis.
