LEWISTON, Maine – The Brandeis women's tennis team posted a 17-6 cumulative record in their opening meet of the season, a doubles tournament held at Bates College.
The top record of the weekend went to senior Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and sophomore Lauren Bertsch (Middletown, R.I. / LaSalle Academy), who were 6-1. The duo won the third place match of the main draw on the first day of action, then went 3-0 on Day 2, when they avenged their only loss of the tournament.
In the 'C' Draw of the Saturday action, sophomore Isabel Cepeda (Mason, Ohio / William Mason) and rookie Ana Hatfield (Rockford, Ill/Boylan Central Catholic) went 3-0 on the first day of action to take the title. The second day of action saw the rest of the pairs split up, with Cepeda going 2-1, posting a win with senior Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) and going 1-1 with sophomore Rachel Zubrinsky (Waxhaw, N.C. / Marvin Ridge).
The Judges return to action next weekend at Williams for the ITA New England Regionals.
