#14 women's tennis blanks Stonehill, 9-0, to close regular season

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team, ranked 14th in Division III, wrapped up their 2019 regular season with a 9-0 victory over Division II Stonehill College. The Judges improve to 11-4 with the win, while the Skyhawks fall to 14-5.

Brandeis opened the match with a doubles sweep. Senior Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) and rookie Ana Hatfield (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) got things started quickly with an 8-0 win at #3. Senior Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and sophomore Lauren Bertsch (Middletown, R.I./LaSalle Academy) followed with an 8-3 victory at #1. Junior Diana Dehterevich (Minsk, Belarus/Secondary Schoo. #185 of Minsk) teamed with sophomore Isabel Cepeda (Mason, Ohio / William Mason) to complete the sweep, 8-5, at #2.

In singles action, senior Michele Lehat (Great Neck, N.Y./ John L. Miller Great Neck North) blitzed her foe, 6-0, 6-1, at #4 to open the scoring. Bertsch earned the clinching point at #1, 6-3, 6-2. Cepeda picked up her first two-set dual match win of the season at #6, 6-3, 6-3.

Sophomore Rachel Zubrinsky (Waxhaw, N.C./Marvin Ridge) had the final straight-set win of the match at #5, 6-3, 7-5. Hatfield and He both rebounded from first-set losses to earn wins. Hatfield picked up a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8, win at #3, while He closed out the match 3-6, 7-5, 10-8.

Brandeis returns to action in two weeks at the 2019 University Athletic Association tournament at Altamonte Springs, Florida.
