Women win cross-town rivalry match with Bentley, 6-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team won all but one match today as the Judges rolled past their cross-town foes from Bentley, 6-1. The Judges improve to 3-4 on the season, while the Falcons fall to 4-7.

Brandeis started by earning the doubles point with a sweep. They won at #2 and #3 without losing a game, 6-0, in each. At the top spot, senior Ana Hatfield (Rockford, Ill. / Boylan Central Catholic) and sophomore Ella Subramanian (Parkland, Fla. / Laurel Springs) won the last three games over Makena Romagnano and Adriana Hiraldo to take a 7-5 victory.

In singles action, Brandeis first-year Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India / Kumkum School) earned the first point at #1 with a 6-2, 6-2, win over Romagnano. Hiraldo got Bentley on the board with a 6-1, 6-4, victory, avenging her doubles loss to Hatfield. Brandeis sophomore Nikita Salkar (Mumbai, India / Mourataglou Tennis Academy) closed out the first round of singles with a 6-4, 6-3, win over Maria Mella at #2, bringing the Judges within a point of victory.

The match was clinched at #5 singles when Judge first-year Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece / Anatolia College) defeated Bentley's Zoe Chin, 6-0, 6-2. Subramanian defeated Remi LeSage at #4, 6-1, 6-2, and Brandeis sophomore Jiayi Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International) closed out the victory at #6 by winning 12 in a row, 6-0, 6-0, over Alyssa Cook.

Brandeis returns to action on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. against 32nd-ranked Colby College. Bentley heads to Florida next week and will take on Rollins College on Monday at 11 a.m.
