Women's tennis falls, 5-4, to Skidmore

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team dropped a narrow 5-4 decision to visiting Skidmore College today indoors in the Gosman Athletic Center. The Judges, who suffer their fourth one-point loss of the season, fall to 3-10, while the Thoroughbreds improve to 8-3.

Brandeis fell behind, 2-1, after doubles action. The Judges' number one tandem of first-years Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India/Kumkum School) and Sabrina Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) picked up an 8-4 win, but Skidmore won, 8-6 and 8-4, at the other two spots.

The visitors opened up a 3-1 lead when Lily Feldman defeated sophomore Nikita Salkar (Mumbai, India / Mourataglou Tennis Academy), 6-2, 6-1, but Parwani and Loui each use a tiebreaker to catapult to singles victory. Parwani topped Katherine Almquist, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, at #1, while Loui won a three-setter, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-3, at #3 to tie the match at 3-all.

Skidmore prevailed at #4 and #5 to finish off the win. Grace Truong knocked of Brandeis senior Ana Hatfield (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic), 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, at #4, while first-year Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece / Anatolia College) fell to Ella Provost, 7-5, 6-4Sophomore Jiayi Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International) won her first set at #6 for the match's final point.

Brandeis returns to action tomorrow against Division II Franklin Pierce for a 1 p.m. start, an hour earlier than originally scheduled.
