MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Despite an upset at the top of the singles lineup, the Brandeis University women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss at the hands of #5-ranked Wesleyan University today on the road. The Judges fall to 4-11 on the season, while the Cardinals improve to 13-0.

The Judges' lone point came at #1 singles, where first-year Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India/Kumkum School) upset Wesleyan's Caitlyn Ferrante. After dropping the first set, 7-5, Parwani won seven straight games. She took the second set, 6-0, and won the super-tiebreaker, 10-4, to defeat the second-ranked team in the Northeast.

In the remainder of the matches, the Judges were most competitive at #4 and #6 singles. Senior Ana Hatfield (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) took a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Kristina Yu at #4. Sophomore Jiayi Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International) suffered a defeat to Kriti Williams by the same score at #6.

In doubles action, Brandeis's best performance came at #1, where Parwani and classmate Sabrina Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) dropped a 8-5 decision to Ferrante and Sasha Gaeth, the top-ranked tandem in the region.

Brandeis is next in action at the 2022 UAA Tournament in Florida.
