Parwani named UAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week, Feb. 27

WALTHAM, Mass. –  Women's tennis sophomore Bhakti Parwani of Ahmedabad, India, earned her second career University Athletic Association Player of the Week honors on February 27, 2023.  

Parwani helped the Judges open their February break trip to California with an upset. Brandeis, ranked #40 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, faced #19 Cal Tech on Monday, February 20th in Pasadena, California. She teamed with first-year Rebecca Suarez for an 8-6 win at #1 doubles, then came through with a 6-1, 6-2, win at #2 singles as the Judges defeated the Beavers, 5-4.

Parwani also went 2-0 in an 8-1 win later that day against Whittier College, winning 8-1 in doubles and 6-2, 6-2, in singles action. Overall in 2022-23, Parwani is 4-3 in singles and 8-1 in doubles.

Parwani also earned two wins, including two tiebreakers, in a match with #15 Redlands that was not completed due to rain. She and Suarez won, 8-7 (7-5), at #1 doubles, and she won 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) in singles. The Judges led the Bulldogs, 4-3, when the match was halted, and both teams were ahead by a set in one of the two remaining matches.

The Judges return to action this weekend with home matches against Wheaton College on March 4 and Division II Franklin Pierce on March 5. Both matches start at 1 p.m.

Pawrani is a 2021 graduate of Kumkum School.
