WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University women's tennis first-year Rebecca Suarez (Huntington, N.Y. / International Virtual Learning Academy) needed a couple of tiebreakers to go down, but the 19th-ranked Judges fell to #4 Wesleyan University, 9-0, in non-conference action today in the Cordish Tennis Center.
TEAM RECORDS AND RANKINGS
- Brandeis: 5-4, 19th in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
- Wesleyan: 10-0, 4th in Division III.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles. They won a pair of quick matches, 8-2 and 8-1, at #2 and #3, respectively.
- At the top spot, Brandeis first-years Ella Chase (Lincoln, Mass. / Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) and Suarez pushed Wesleyan's Sasha Gaeth and Kristina Yu to a tiebreaker before falling, 8-7 (7-1) at the top spot.
- In singles action, the Cardinals earned the clinch with a 6-1, 6-1, win at #3 and a 6-2, 6-1, win at #6.
- Brandeis won just five games in three of the remaining four matches. Suarez and Wesleyan's Leila Epstein waged a three-set battle at #1, with Epstein prevailing after dropping the first set, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 in the third-set tiebreaker.

- The Judges host UAA foes Rochester on Saturday at 10 a.m. at home, and then travel to #31 Skidmore Sunday at 1 p.m.
