Brandeis tennis classes earn top-10 rankings

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis University tennis teams' incoming classes have each been ranked among the top 10 recruiting classes in Division III by TennisRecruiting.net. The women's class was ranked #7 in the nation, while the men were ranked #10.

The women's class, brought in by fifth-year head coach Pauri Pandian, consists of four players from four different countries. They are. 

  • Lika Bolkvadze from Tbilisi, Georgia. 8.23 UTR (Universal Tennis Rating)

  • Chahana Budhbhatti from Ahmedabad, India. 8.41 UTR

  • Sanjana Kumar from Phoenix, Arizona. 4 Star ranked as high as 170 in the country. 8.22 UTR

  • Marie Amandine Reyes from Manila, Philippines. 7.81 Singles UTR

"I can't wait for the fall to have Lika, Chahana, Sanju, and Mandy on campus!" said Pandian. "Besides being great players, I know they will be great teammates and add to our positive team culture. They will no doubt help us in our efforts to win a UAA and NCAA championship."

The Judges went 10-10 last year and finished seventh in the University Athletic Association. They return their entire lineup from the 2022-23 season.

The men, in Christo Schultz's first season as head coach after four years as an assistant, add three players to the lineup. They are

  • Huasen Dong of Santa Ana, California, 11.36 UTR'

  • Yihao Huai of Irvine, California, 3-star rating, 10.91 UTR

  • Pierce Garbett of Coral Gables, Florida, 3-star rating, 10.13 UTR

"These three players will be a terrific addition to our squad," said Schultz. "I think they have the potential to bring our team to the next level in 2023-24."

The Brandeis men posted a 13-7 record in 2022-23, finishing in fifth place in the UAA. They bring back all but two of their starters from last season, including three All-Association selections.
