Benun, Sax selected for NCAA championships in triple jump; Video added!

WALTHAM, Mass. - Brandeis University seniors Anat Benun of Haifa, Israel, and Ali Sax of Lincoln, Mass., will represent the Judges at the 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 13-14 at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.

Benun will be making her third trip to the NCAA championships. She finished in third place in 2006 and was runner-up in 2007 before missing the 2008 season due to injury. Benun recently claimed her third University Athletic Association (UAA) crown in the event with a season-best leap of 11.72 meters (38 feet, 5 ½ inches), ranking her ninth in the nation headed into the championships. Benun also earned All-New England Division III honors this season, finishing at second place at the regional meet.

Sax will be making her first appearance the Division III meet. Her top performance of the season was a leap of 11.59 meters (38 feet, ¼ inch) at the New England Division III Championships on March 21, where she finished in third place. Sax also claimed All-UAA honors at the conference championships with a third-place finish. She will enter the NCAA meet ranked 13th out of 14 entrants, including three other competitors from New England.

Benun is a 2002 graduate of Ironi-Hey High School. She is the daughter of Jonathan and Hana Benun, Haifa, Israel.

Sax is a 2005 graduate of Lincoln-Sudbury High School. She is the daughter of Eric and Julia Sax, Lincoln, Mass.
