Women's track and field finishes fourth at '09 UAA Championships

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Brandeis University women's track and field team competed at the 2009 University Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend at the Gesling Stadium on the campus of Carnegie Mellon.  The Judges had eight All-UAA performers at the event to pick up 101 points as they finish fourth in a field of seven teams. 

      Senior Ali Sax (Lincoln, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) led all Judges with three All-UAA performances.  She had three third-place finishes.  The first came in the 100-meter hurdle event where she finished with a time of 16.18 seconds.  Sax went on to compete in the long jump and the triple jump where finished with a distance of 5.49 meters (18 feet 1/4 inches) and 11.46 meters (37 feet 7 1/4 inches), respectively.  Both of these distances were NCAA provisional B qualifiers. 

Junior Beth Pisarik (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and senior Katy Agule (Acton, Mass./Acton Boxborough) had the best finished for the Judges.  They both finished in second place in their respective events.  Pisarik ran the 1500-meter race in 4:40.39 which was nine seconds off the championship mark, while Katy Agule finished the 3000-meter steeplechase in 11:25.79 which was only eight seconds away from a championship win.  Agule added a second All-UAA performance in the 5000-meter run where she finished in third place with a time of 18:55.97.  Junior Suzanne Bernier (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) rounded out the individual All-UAA performers with a third place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.56 meters (5 feet 1 1/4 inches). 

Junior Julia Alpaio (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East), sophomore Hannah Lindholm (Madison, Wis./West High) and junior Jessica Girard (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) and Molly Shanley (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) combined to finish in third place in the 3200-meter relay with a time of 9:43.13. 

Other notable performances came from sophomores Grayce Selig (Narberth, Pa./Springside), who finished in fourth place in the 1500-meter run (4:46.71), and Emily Owen (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) who also finished fourth in the 800-meter run (2:18.83).
