WALTHAM, Mass.- Brandeis University junior sprinter Brittany Bell of Setauket, N.Y., has been selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Track and Field Runner of the Week for the week ending Dec. 4.

Bell, who is being recognized as the UAA Runner of the Week for the first time in her career, was honored for her performance at the 2011 Jay Carisella Invitational, hosted by Northeastern University, on Dec. 3. In her first competition of the 2011-12 indoor track and field season, Bell finished in second place in the 55-meter dash against a field made up of Division I, II and III student-athletes. Her time of 7.41 seconds ranks 10th in the nation in Division III after conversion to the 60-meter distance that is contested at the NCAA championships.

Bell also finished 10th in the long jump with a distance of 4.78 meters (15 feet, 8 ¼ inches).
