PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Brandeis women's track and field teams produced one championship today at the 2012 University Athletic Association championships hosted by Carnegie Mellon University. The Judges finished in seventh place with 28 points.
Leading the way for the Judges as she has all season, senior Kate Warwick (Boxborough, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) claimed her second UAA title of 2012,winning the 10,000-meter run in her first race of the season at that distance. With a time of 36:34.38, Warwick left Emory's Laura Santoski behind, winning by 21 seconds. Warwick's time in the 10K is currently 22nd in Division III, which would put her into the NCAA championships if the standings do not change. Warwick's 10K title joins her 3,000-meter championship from the indoor season.
The Judges had four other women who scored points as individuals. Junior Kim Farrington (Shirley, Mass./Ayer) posted the next-best finish, placing fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 35 feet, 7 ¾ inches. Rookie Alyssa Fenenbock (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) also a member of the soccer team, took sixth in the javelin throw in her first UAA meet, posting a distance of 111 feet, eight inches, coming on her first throw of the meet. Sophomore Amelia Lundkvist (So.Portland, Maine/Cheverus) was the only other scorer for the Judges on the track, placing seventh in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:47.11. Just edging into the scoring column was senior Lily Parenteau (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough), who was eighth in the high jump at 5-2 ¼ , tied for the fifth-best height but awarded eighth on number of jumps.
Brandeis had a fifth-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay, where the quartet of rookie Ali Kirsch (Sharon, Mass./Sharon), Lundkvist, junior Erin Bisceglia (Durham, Conn./Coginchaug) and sophomore Vicki Sanford (Andover, N.Y./Andover), who ran a time of 9:52.25, just over a second out of fourth place.
