Women's track places fifth at Poyau Invitational

WALTHAM, Mass. – At their only home meet of the season, the Brandeis women's indoor track and field team placed fifth out of eight squads at the 2012 Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational in the Gosman Athletic Center tonight, totaling 44 points.

On the women's side, there were a pair of runner-up finishes to lead the Judges. In the 1,000-meter run, it was rookie Kelsey Whitaker (Kingston, Mass./Notre Dame Acad.) who was second with a time of 3:09.18. Classmate Rachel Keller (Albany, N.Y./Colonie) was sixth in 3:22.96.

In the mile run, the Judges took silver and bronze as junior Amelia Lundkvist (So. Portland, Maine/Cheverus) could not quite overtake a runner from UMass-Lowell, finishing four-hundredths of a second out of first place with a time of 5:25.78, while rookie Maggie Hensel (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) was third in 5:35.34.

      Brandeis had two scoring performances in two other events, the 400-meter dash and the 800-meter run. In the 400, it was a pair of seniors, Casey McGown (Clinton, Mass./Clinton)and Anifreed Sinjour (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) were fourth and fifth with times of 1:03.34 and 10:3.59, respectively. In the 800, it was first-year Nora Owens (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro West) was fourth in 2:42.65 and sophomoreGabriella Guillette (Lunenberg, Mass./Lunenberg) placed fifth in 2:43.82.

      Brandeis had one double scorer, senior Brittany Bell (Setauket, N.Y./Hotchiss School), who took fourth in the 55-meter dash (7.44 seconds) and sixth in the long jump (16 feet, 1 ½ inches). Classmate Kim Farrington (Shirley, Mass./Ayer) also scored in the field events, taking fourth in the triple jump at (35 feet, 1 ¼ inches).
