Track sends three to nationals as two qualify on last day of season

Irie Gourde '17 joined the men's track and field team as a senior walk-on. He went on to earn four silver medals at the UAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, a bronze at the outdoor Open New Englands and break a 38-year-old school record in the 200-meter dash (21.67 seconds). After he qualified for nationals outdoors early in the season, it looked as though he might be the Judges' only representative – until the MIT Last Chance Meet. A pair of sophomores – Emily Bryson '19 and Doyin Ogundiran '19 – on the women's team had fantastic performances to book their tickets. Bryson made nationals for the fifth in time in two years with a personal-best time of 4:31.28 in the 1,500, a p.r. by more than four seconds. Even more impressive was Ogundiran, who vaulted into 14th-place in the Division III rankings with a time of 2:11.48 in the 800, lowering her p.r. by almost 3.5 seconds and missing a school record by 0.38. At the NCAAs, Bryson finished 12th, reaching the finals in the 1,500 despite battling illness at nationals, while Ogundiran placed 16th in the 800 and Gourde 18th in the 400.
