CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Brandeis University track and field teams had eight scoring performances on the second day of action today at the 2022 University Athletic Association Indoor Championships at Case Western Reserve University. The women finished with 40.5 points to finish in fifth place, while the men had eight points to place seventh.

The Judges' top performance on the day came in the 60-meter hurdles, where they had two scorers. Senior Sonali Anderson (Fayetteville, Ga./Whitewater), who broke the school record in the event in the preliminaries, posted a mark of 9.25 seconds in the finals. She was 0.04 off her record time, but was good enough for fifth place. Sophomore Alya Campbell (Eastchester, N.Y. / Eastchester), who made it into the finals by just a few thousandths of a second, placed eighth with a time of 9.45 seconds.

The Brandeis women had two other individual scoring performances on the track, both sixth place finishes. Senior Devin Hiltunen (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) was the last qualifier in the 400-meter dash by 0.02 seconds, but improved to sixth place in the finals with a time of 1:00.81. In the final individual event of the meet, senior Niamh Kenney (Hanover, Mass./Hanover), who anchored yesterday's All-UAA distance medley relay, took sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a season-best time of 10:15.38.

The Judges also took fifth place in the 4x400-meter relay, as the team of sophomore Liz Korn (Piedmont, Calif. / Piedmont), sophomore Olivia Zarzycki (Belmont, Mass. / Belmont), Campbell and Hiltunen produced a time of 4:02.71, 0.66 behind Emory.

In the field events for the women, first-year Kirsten Man (Kendall Park, N.J. / South Brunswick) had a lifetime best in the high jump with a height of 1.52 meters to earn fifth place.

On the men's side, senior Reese Farquhar (Newton, Mass./Newton North) earned a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash. Farquhar was the final qualifier in the event, but shaved nearly a tenth of a second off his prelim to run 22.92 seconds, his second time under 23 seconds this season. The Judges also had a seventh-place finish in the 4x400-meter run, as the team of senior Aaron Portman (Wheeling, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson), sophomore Samuel Kim (La Jolla, Calif. / Phillips Exeter, N.H.), senior Jacob Grant (Rockville Center, N.Y. / South Side) and senior Jamie O'Neil (Auburndale, Mass./Newton North) posted a season-best time in the event of 3:28.45.

In addition to their scoring performances, the Judges also had a handful of personal bests on the day.

• Zachary Reynolds '23 – men's shotput – 12.36m, 11^th place
• Jonathan Hau '23 – men's shotput – 11.18m, 14^th place

The Judges will return to action on Saturday, March 5^th for the Tufts Last Chance meet, the final meet before the NCAA Championships.
