Track runs at Riverhawk Invite at New Balance over the weekend

BOSTON, Mass. – The Brandeis Track and Field teams competed over the weekend at the Track at New Balance for the UMass-Lowell River Hawk Invitational with the women competing on Friday and the men on Saturday. This was a non-scoring meet, with the women competing on Friday and the men on Saturday against Division I and II competition.

TOP PERFORMANCES - WOMEN

  • On the women's side, the Judges turned in eight season-best performances.
  • Senior Yahni Lapa (West Newton, Mass. / Newton North) had the team's top finish, placing 10th in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:22.65.
  • Senior Bridget Pickard (Westwood, Mass. / Westwood) had a 12th-place finish in the mile run with a time of 5:20.70, also a p.r.
  • First-year Ella Warkentine (Malvern, Pa. / Conestoga) was 16th in the mile in 5:23.35.
  • Junior Alya Campbell (Eastchester, N.Y. / Eastchester) turned in the team's final top-20 performance in running events, placing 19th in the 60m hurdles in 9.35 seconds.
  • Junior Smiley Huynh (Bronx, N.Y. / Bronx H.S. of Science) was 20th in the pole vault with a height of 3.06 meters (10-0 ½)
  • Other team season bests came from Campbell in the 200 (32nd, 26.82 seconds); junior Liz Korn (Piedmont, Calif. / Piedmont) in the 400 (24th, 1:00.95); senior Victoria Morrongiello (Staten Island, N.Y. / Susan E. Wagner) in the 800m (34th, 2:26.18); sophomore Kirsten Man (Kendall Park, N.J. / South Brunswick) in the high jump (29th, 1.45m/4-9); and first-year Emma Liu (Las Vegas, Nev. / Phillips Exeter Academy) in the shot put (48th, 8.87m / 29-4 ¼)
  • Lapa, sophomore Hannah Bohbot-Dridi (Mountain View, Calif. / Los Altos), Morrongiello and Korn finished 13th in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:10.23, also a team's season high.

TOP MEN'S PERFORMANCES

  • The men had seven season-best performances, including the teams highest finish of the weekend.
  • Senior Matthew Driben (Reading, Pa./Wyomissing Area) had the team's top performance, finishing sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:05.30. That mark represented both a season-best for the team and a career-best for Driben.
  • Sophomore Daniel Frost (Hanover, N.H. / Hanover) also PRed in the 5K with a time of 16:34.36, good for 31st place.
  • Junior Ori Slotky (Closter, N.J. / Northern Valley Regional) had a season-best performance in the triple jump with a distance o 11.83 meters (38-9 ¾), which was good for 13th place. Sophomore Lin Lin Hutchinson (Portland, Ore. / Ida B. Wells) was 16th in the event at 11.23 meters (36-10 ¼).
  • Though he didn't turn in a season-best performance, senior Dion Morris-Evans (Canal Fulton, Ohio / Northwest) had a trio of top-20 finishes. He was 18th in the high jump (1.76m, 5-9 ¼), 19th in the long jump (6.01m, 19-8 ¾) and 20th in the 60-meter hurdles (8.93 seconds).
  • Other season-best performances in individual races came from first-year TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport) in the mile (24th, 4:24.73), who ran a PR; junior Sam Kim (La Jolla, Calif. / Phillips Exeter (N.H.) in the 800-meter run (26th, 1:58.07) and sophomore Danny Krigman (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford) in the 200-meter dash (78th, 23.68 seconds).
  • Carleo, Kim Krigman and first-year Leo Schiappa (Wareham, Mass. / Old Rochester Regional) combined for the team's best run of the 4x400-meter relay of the season, placing 15th with a time of 3:31.30.
  • Sophomore Cam Peirce (Kittery, Maine / Portsmouth Christian Academy) turned in a season-best performance in the shot put, coming in 39th with a throw of 12.10m (39-8 ½).
