LOWELL, Mass. -- The Brandeis University track and field teams returned to action this Friday, beginning the 2023 outdoor season in the UMass Lowell Invitational. They competed strongly against Division I competition in a nonscoring meet.

TOP MEN'S PERFORMANCES

• Senior Dion Morris-Evans (Canal Fulton, Ohio / Northwest) picked up where he left off in the indoor season and had a great return to action. He finished first in the 110-meter hurdle with a time of 15.24 seconds, setting a personal record with that time. Morris-Evans also finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.86m, just shy of his personal record 1.90m.

• Sophomore Danny Krigman (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford) had a career day, setting personal records in two different sprints. In the 100-meter dash, he finished 5th with a time of 11.31 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, he finished 4th with a time of 23.16 seconds.

• The 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Jordan Colon (Devens, Mass. / Bromfield School), Krigman, first-year Leo Schiappa (Wareham, Mass. / Old Rochester Regional), and first-year Matthew Yue (Vancouver, B.C. / Woodside Priory School) finished 4th with a time of 44.06 seconds. There were two 4x400-meter relay teams. The team of first-year TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport), junior Samuel Kim (La Jolla, Calif. / Phillips Exeter (N.H.)), Morris-Evans and Krigman finished 3rd with a time of 3:33.42. The team of first-year TJ Showstead (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth North), junior Ori Slotky (Closter, N.J. / Northern Valley Regional), junior Young Wang (Hopkinton, Mass. / Hopkinton) and Schiappa finished 5th with a time of 3:42.10.

TOP WOMEN'S PERFORMANCES

• Junior Alya Campbell (Eastchester, N.Y. / Eastchester) carried her indoor form to the outdoor track, finishing well in her two individual races. She won the 100-meter hurdle with a time of 15.54 seconds, and finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.67 seconds.

• The Judges had quite a showing in the 1500-meter run, with three personal records set. Sophomore Kayla DiBenedetto (Andover, Mass. / Andover) finished 7th, setting a personal record time of 4:55.25. First-year Ella Warkentine (Malvern, Pa. / Conestoga) finished 16th, setting a record of 5:03.01. Junior Adah Anderson (Cumberland, R.I. / Cumberland) finished 37th, setting a record of 5:37.97. Senior Bridget Pickard (Westwood, Mass. / Westwood) and sophomore Kyra Au (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South) fell just shy of personal records. Pickard finished 10th with a time of 4:57.72 and Au finished 31st with a time of 5:25.34.

• The 4x100-meter relay team of senior Devin Hiltunen (Quincy, MA / North Quincy), first-year Shaniece Nugent (Hartford, Conn. / Lawrence Academy), junior Smiley Huynh (Bronx, N.Y. / Bronx H.S. of Science) and Campbell finished 4th with a time of 50.79. There were two 4x400-meter relay teams. The team of Junior Liz Korn (Piedmont, Calif. / Piedmont), senior Yahni Lapa (West Newton, Mass. / Newton North), Hiltunen, and sophomore Hannah Bohbot-Dridi (Mountain View, Calif. / Los Altos) finished second with a time of 4:20.16. The team of senior Victoria Morrongiello (Staten Island, N.Y. / Susan E. Wagner), DiBenedetto, junior Olivia Zarzycki (Belmont, Mass. / Belmont), and junior Ianna Gilbert (Queens, N.Y. / Young Women's Leadership School of Queens) finished 5th with a time of 4:34.00.
