CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brandeis University outdoor track and field team saw one school record broken at this afternoon's MIT Last Chance Meet to end the regular season in a non-scoring event.
Junior Alya Campbell (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) lowered her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.01 seconds, shaving one-hundredth of a second off the mark she set last year. Campbell was the seventh of eight qualifiers for the finals, but she was unable to compete in second race of the day. (NOTE: This time was wind-aided and did not constitute a new school record)
Competing in his final career races, senior Dion Morris-Evans (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northeast) ran 15.18 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles in the prelims, while his time of 15.05 seconds in the finals was good for fourth place and a personal best.
Senior Devin Hiltunen (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) ran third in her final individual race, covering 200 meters in 26.37 seconds. Classmate Victoria Morrongiello (Staten Island, N.Y. / Susan E. Wagner) wrapped up her career with an 11th-place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:24.02
Sophomore Smiley Huynh (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx H.S. of Science) matched her season-best in the pole vault with a height of 3.33 meters (10-11), placing fifth.
Sophomore Hannah Bohbot-Dridi (Mountain View, Calif. / Los Altos) took seventh place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.94, about a second behind her personal-best.
Junior Samuel Kim (La Jolla, Calif. / Phillips Exeter (N.H.) won his heat and finished ninth overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.03
Sophomore Danny Krigman (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford) was 10th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.21 seconds in the prelims, missing the finals by 0.15 seconds.
The women's 4x100-meter relay was unable to break the school record for a second meet in a row, as the team of Campbell, first-year Shaniece Nugent (Hartford, Conn. / Lawrence Academy), Huynh and Hiltunen placed third with a time of 49.74 seconds, 0.62 seconds off their mark from Open New Englands.
The Judges' season will wrap up next week when first-year TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) is expected to be selected to the NCAA Division III Championships at St. John Fisher in Rochester, New York.
