NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Brandeis volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the second day of the 2011 Hall of Fame Invitational, suffering sweeps at the hands of Amherst and 25th-ranked Bowdoin. In addition to their win over co-host Smith on Friday night, the Judges finished 1-2 at the tournament and are now 8-17 overall. 

Brandeis dropped their first match of the day to the Lord Jeffs, 25-18, 25-17, 25-22, their second loss of the season to Amherst. Brandeis was paced by sophomore outside hitter Si-Si Hensley (Fullerton, Calif./Troy) and rookie OH Liz Hood (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Acad.), who each registered 11 kills. Hensley finished with a .269 hitting percentage (11 K-4 E-26 TA) and also had five digs. Junior middle blocker Becca Fischer (San Antonio, Texas/Clark) had four blocks (two solo), while classmate MB Lauren Berens (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) was the most accurate Judges on the attack for the second-straight match with six kills and just one error in 10 attempts for a .500 hititng percentage. Rookie libero Elsie Bernaiche (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) led the squad with 12 digs, while sophomore setter Yael Einhorn (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) had 28 assists.

Against Bowdoin, the Judges fell to 0-4 this season against nationally-ranked teams with a 25-9, 25-11, 25-23 defeat. Hood had a team-high six kills, while Hensley finished with five. Defensively, Bernaiche had 10 digs and Fischer added three blocks (two solo). Hensley also had nine digs and two blocks (one solo).

After the tournament, Hensley was selected to the All-Tournament team. She was the Judges' top all-around player, finishing second on the team in kills (25) and blocks (5) and third in digs (19). Along with her two service aces, Hensley led the team with 30 points on the weekend.

The Judges return to action next week at Lasell College on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. before their home finale on Saturday, Oct. 29, against No. 17 UMass-Boston.
