Balanced attack leads volleyball past Lasell, 3-0

NEWTON, Mass. (taken from a Lasell College release) - Neighboring Brandeis University derailed the Lasell College women's volleyball team with a 3-0 sweep of the Lasers on Tuesday night at the Athletic Center. The Judges used a .245 attack percentage to improve their overall record to 9-17 this season while the Lasers stand at 13-18.

Brandeis relied on four hitters to produce the majority of their 38 kills, led by rookie outside hitter Liz Hood (Alberquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Acad.) with 10. Junior middle blocker Becca Fischer (San Antonio, Texas/Clark), junior MB Lauren Berens (Boulder, Colo./Fairview), and sophomore OH Si-Si Hensley (Fullerton, Calif./Troy) followed closely with eight, seven, and six kills, respectively.

The Judges also held the advantage in the defensive zone, collecting 45 digs to Lasell's 40. Hensley was the top defender of the contest with 15 pick ups while rookie libero Elsie Bernaiche (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) added eight for the visitors. Sophomore setter Yael Einhorn (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) recorded 29 assists in the Judges' win.

For Lasell, Sara Biondo (Coventry, RI) was the top attacker with seven kills while Alexis Chappell (Springfield, MA) added six and Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) notched five.  Chappell also led the Lasers in digs with eight and Anna Feeter (Peterborough, NH) was a close second with seven.

Senior setter Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) put up 17 assists in a losing effort, and contributed five digs on the defensive side.

Brandeis will play its regular-season home finale on Saturday afternoon against No. 16 UMass Boston at 1:00 p.m. Lasell will play again on Wednesday, October 26th on the road at Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.  The Lasers and the AMCATS will meet at 7:00 p.m.
