Hensley double-double leads volleyball past Salve, 3-1

DANBURY, Conn. -- The Brandeis volleyball team opened its 2012 campaign successfully with a 3-1 win over Salve Regina University at the Western Connecticut State University Invitational. The Judges (1-0) took the first two sets, 25-19, 28-26, while the Seahawks (0-1) took the third, 25-22. Brandeis closed out the match, 25-18, to capture the win.

Leading the way for Brandeis was junior outside hitter Si-Si Hensley (Fullerton, Calif./Troy), who posted a double-double with a team-high 14 kills and 16 digs. Junior setter Yael Einhorn (Cherry Hill, N.J.) had 37 assists. Nutmeg State native Elsie Bernaiche (Plantsville, Conn./Southington), a sophomore libero, had 19 digs to lead the squad. Sophomore outside hitter Liz Hood (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Acad.) added nine kills, while rookie middle blocker Maddie Engeler (Sandusky, Ohio/St. Mary Central Catholic) posted eight blocks in her collegiate debut.

The Judges return to action tomorrow afternoon against Johnson and Wales and the host Colonials.
