Volleyball falls to #21 CMU and #4 Emory on first day of UAAs

NEW YORK, N.Y.  – In their first conference action of the season, the Brandeis University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches against nationally-ranked opponents at the University Athletic Association Round Robin at New York University. The Judges (3-13) dropped their first match against #21 Carnegie Mellon, 25-13, 25-15, 25-19, before bowing to #4 Emory, 25-10, 25-8, 25-17.

Against the Tartans, Brandeis senior middle hitter Maddie Engeler (Huron, Ohio/St. Mary Central Catholic) led all players with nine kills, while rookie outside hitter Grace Krumpack (Cincinatti, Ohio/Colrain) had eight. Rookie setter Allison Harmsworth (Bradenton, Fla / Newsome) added 15 assists and seven digs, while classmate Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) had nine digs to lead the Judges. The Judges couldn't overcome seven blocks by CMU, while the Tartans hit .250 to just .034 for Brandeis.

Against Emory, Engeler led the squad again with six kills, while rookie Zara Platt (Fountain Valley, Calif. / Fountain Valley) added five. Sophomore Jessie Moore (Rye, N.Y./Rye) had 10 digs to lead all players, matching her career-best. Harmsworth finished with 12 assists. Emory's Kathryn Trinka and Sarah Maher each had 10 kills to lead all players, while Sydney Miles had 29 assists.
