Volleyball drops New England Invitational opener to Bowdoin, 3-0.

WALTHAM, Massachusetts — The Brandeis University volleyball team dropped a three-set match to the Bowdoin Polar Bears in its first game of the New England Invitational, 25-20, 25-22, 25-17. With the loss the Judges fall to .500 at 2-2, while Bowdoin improves to 2-0.

FOR THE JUDGES

  • Four Judges had five kills or more. Sophomore Emma Bartlett (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) led the way with seven, freshman Belle Scott (Portland, Ore. / Oregon Episcopal School) had six, and junior Shea Decker-Jacoby (Los Angeles, Calif. / Marymount) and freshman Marissa Borgert (Blaine, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) had five apiece.

  • Setting duties were spread around a bit this game, but junior Marlee Nork (Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep.) led Brandeis with 16 assists, while Borgert added seven helpers of her own.

  • Two Judges achieved double-digit dig totals: junior Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo), who had a team-high 15, and freshman Clare Meyers (Richfield, Wisc. / Slinger), who had 10.

  • The Judges hit .144 for the match (31K-15E-111TA), with Borgert leading Brandeis at .264 (5K-1E-15TA).

FOR THE POLAR BEARS

  • Three Bowdoin players had double-digit kills: Caroline Flaherty and Ashley Williams both had 12, while Michelle Albright added 10 of her own. All three hit .320 or better for the match.

  • Kate Kiser was the lone setter for the Polar Bears, pitching in with a match-high 37 assists.

  • Lisa Sheldon led her team and the match with 21 digs, while her teammates Caroline Flaharty and Michelle Albright respectively added 11 and 10 digs.

  • Sydney Salle led the match with four blocks.

  • The Polar Bears hit a robust .303 for the match (47K-11E-119TA), with Flaharty leading the way at .370 (12K-2E-27TA)

UP NEXT

  • Brandeis is back at it tomorrow for its final two games of the Invitational, taking on Anna Maria college at noon and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) at 2:00 PM, both at Auerbach Arena.

  • Also in Gosman Sports Center, UMass Boston takes on RIT at noon and then battles Anna Maria at 2:00 PM.

  • Bowdoin takes a short journey northeast to Tufts tomorrow, where the Polar Bears take on Marymount University at 10:00 AM and University of Minnesota, Morris at 2:00 PM.
