Borgert named All-Tournament as Volleyball splits against Hamilton and Trinity

AMHERST, Massachusetts — The Brandeis University volleyball team split the second day of the Hall of Fame Invitational, as freshman Marissa Borgert (Blaine, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) was named to the All-Tournament team. The Judges lost the first match in straight sets, 3-0, to Hamilton, but swept Trinity (Conn.) on the backend. The Judges are now 12-11, the most victories for the program since 2012, when they went 21-14. At the end of the day's action, Hamilton was 12-7 and Trinity was 6-13.

AGAINST HAMILTON (25-21, 25-17, 25-18)

  • For the third match in a row, Borgert logged double-digit kills, this time amassing a team-leading 10 kills.

  • Freshman Clare Meyers (Richfield, Wisc. / Slinger) had an efficient day at the net, hitting .308 (5K-1E-13TA). Meyers also contributed from behind the service line, with a career-high four aces.

  • Junior Marlee Nork (Chicago, IL / Walter Payton College Prep) handled most of the setting duties today, compiling 19 assists.

  • Junior Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) once again led the Judges in digs, with ten. Classmate Shea Decker-Jacoby (Los Angeles, Calif. / Marymount) almost joined Cho in the ten-dig club, just missing with nine.

  • All 11 Judges who played in the match had at least one dig, and seven of the 11 had three digs or more.

  • The Judges hit .053 for the match (27K-22E-95TA).

AGAINST TRINITY (25-23, 25-22, 25-23)

  • The Judges spread the attacking out in this one, as four Brandeis players had five or more kills but none had more than eight.

  • Borgert led with eight kills (on a .348 attack percentage), Meyers had seven, sophomore Emma Bartlett (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) had six, and Decker-Jacoby had five.

  • Nork again handled most of the setting for the Judges, matching her assist total from earlier in the day with 19. This time, Borgert joined her in the double-digit club with 12 assists.

  • For the fifth time this season, Cho had 24 digs, leading Brandeis. Decker-Jacoby and Meyers also made significant contributions to the team's dig total, contributing 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

  • Nork set a season-high with four service aces.

  • The Judges hit .118  for the match (31K-17E-119TA).

UP NEXT

  • Brandeis plays a single away match at Rivier on Tuesday, October 24 at 7 PM

  • Hamilton is off until next weekend, when it hosts Middlebury, Morrisville State, and St. Lawrence on Friday and Saturday, October 27 and 28.

  • Trinity also takes the week off, playing next on Friday, October 27 at home against Colby at 8 PM.
