WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University junior middle hitter Emma Bartlett of Duxbury, Massachusetts, had an outstanding opening weekend of the 2018 season, earning University Athletic Association (UAA) Volleyball Player of the Week honors for her efforts.

Bartlett paced the Judges' offense with 42 kills and just 11 errors in 85 attacks for a terrific .365 hitting percentage for the week. She also had nine blocks (three solo) to lead the team, and finished second on the squad with six service aces. The Judges posted a 3-1 record at the Pacific Coast Classic in Los Angeles.

Bartlett opened the week with nine kills and four blocks in a four-set win for Brandeis against Union (N.Y.). She saw limited playing time in a three-set win over Mount Aloysius (Pa.) College, with one kill and two service aces.

Bartlett's best match came in Brandeis's only defeat of the weekend. In a thrilling 3-2 defeat at the hands of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps – the top-ranked team in Division III and the defending NCAA Division III champions – Bartlett finished with a career-high 21 kills and just three errors in 33 attacks for a .545 hitting percentage. Her 21 kills were the most by a Brandeis player since 2013. Bartlett also had four block assists against the Athenas. Brandeis trailed that match, 2-0, before winning the third and fourth sets. In the fifth, Brandeis had a match point at 14-13, but were unable to finish off the home team. The Judges fought off two match points of their own before falling, 17-15.

In the final match of the tournament, Bartlett had 11 kills and three errors in 23 chances for a .348 hitting percentage against University of Redlands. The Judges defeated the Bulldogs, 3-1.
