Volleyball drops UAA tournament opener to #14 Emory, 3-0

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Brandeis University volleyball team dropped its quarterfinal match of 2021 University Athletic Association tournament today as the seventh-seeded Judges fell to the second-seeded Emory University Eagles, 3-0. Set scores were 25-14, 25-14, 25-9. With the loss, the Judges fall to 8-18 on the season, while Emory, ranked 14th in Division III, improves to 22-4.

The Judges were paced by first-year outside hitter Lara Verstovsek (Bellaire, Texas/Episcopal), who tallied nine kills and eight digs, both team-highs. Senior Belle Scott (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School) added four kills, but no other player finished with more than two for the Judges. Senior libero Kaitlyn Oh (Santa Clara, Calif./Cupertino) and sophomore setter Ines Grom-Mansenecal (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming) each had seven digs, while Grom-Mansenecal finished with 17 assists.

The Judges will meet the loser of the match between third-seeded Chicago and host and sixth-seeded Case Western Reserve in the consolation semifinals later today at 6 p.m. Emory advances in search of its third-straight UAA crown and will meet the winner of the UC-CWRU match at 4:30 p.m.
