HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first set saw the two teams stay tight in the early going, as the squads were tied at 5-all. Brandeis moved ahead little by little, eventually going ahead 11-7.
  • After the Blue answered to get back within three, the Judges had their first big run of the match, scoring four in a row to forge a 15-8 lead on a kill by graduate student Sydney Bent (Raleigh, N.C./Ransom Everglades, Fla.).
  • Wellesley answered with a 7-1 run of their own to claw back within 16-15.
  • Bent helped shut down the rally by serving the next seven in a row as the Judges closed out the first on a 9-1 run to take it 25-16.
  • Wellesley won the first point of the second set to take their only lead of the match. The Judges won the next four, and after the visitors battled back to tie things up at 7-all, a three-point run by Brandeis was enough to keep the Blue at bay, 25-17.
  • Bent served the first eight points of the third set as the Judges ran away with it. Brandeis led by as many as 11 points twice en route to the 25-15 sweep.
