Warwick finishes second at UMass-Dartmouth

NO. DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Brandeis women's cross country team, who are ranked 10th in New England, finished in fourth place out of 37 teams at the 2011 UMass-Dartmouth Shriners' Invitational on the strength of senior Kate Warwick (Boxborough, Mass./Acton-Boxborough), who finished in second place.

Warwick, who was third at UMass- Dartmouth in 2010, finished the 5K course in 17:58.39, just four seconds off the winning time by MIT's Brooke Johnson. Brandeis's next three runners were all underclassmen. Sophomore Amelia Lundkvist (So. Portland, Maine/So. Portland) placed 22nd with a time of 19:20.58, while rookie Miriam Stulin (Needham, Mass./Dana Hall School) made an impressive collegiate debut by finishing just under three seconds later in 26th place with a time of 19:23.45. Sophomore Victoria Sanford (Lagrangevill, N.Y./Arlington) was 39th with a time of 19:44.04, while senior Monique Girard (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) rounded out the scoring in 64th place, finishing in 20:15.55.

The Judges finished in fourth place with 148 points, trailing MIT, the No. 3 team in the region and No. 5 team nationally, won the meet by placing five of the top 9 runners. Coast Guard was second with 109 points, while Wellesley, No. 7 in New England, was third with 114 points.

Brandeis returns to action on Oct. 8 at the Open New England championships at Franklin Park in Boston.
