#22 women's x-country finishes 3rd among D3 schools at Open New Englands

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Brandeis women's cross country team, ranked 22nd in Division III by the USTFCCCA had one of their best performances in ages at the Open New England Championships, finishing 17th overall and 3rd among Division III squads against the top college teams from the region regardless of division. The race was run at Franklin Park in Boston.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Rookie Emily Bryson (Quincy, Mass./No. Quincy) continued her outstanding season as the team's top finisher for the third meet in a row. 
  • Bryson has been among the top 3 Division III runners at all three of her meets this season. Hers was the best Brandeis performance at the Open New Englands since 2010, when Grayce Selig '11 finished seventh overall.
  • For the first time this season, Bryson's twin sister Julia was among the team's top 5 runners, finishing in the top 150 overall and 35th among D3 runners.
  • Junior Maddie Dolins (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) returned to her customary spot as the team's second runner after being the team's third runner last meet.
  • Senior Kelsey Whitaker (Kingston, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) gave the Judges three of the top 20 D3 runners and three of the top 100 overall.
  • Brandeis finished behind two top 10 Division III teams (#4 MIT, #7 Middlebury) and ahead of two other ranked squads (#15 Amherst, #31 Wellesley).
  • The team's spread was just 1:09 seconds  from first to fifth.

  • The Judges head to Connecticut College next weekend for a tuneup at the home of the New England Regional championships in November. In three weeks, the Judges return to Franklin Park for the University Athletic Association championships.
