Women's XC places seventh at UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's cross country team used a tight leading pack to finish seventh out of 38 teams at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational today, while the men placed in 17th of 35 teams.

KEY RESULTS – WOMEN

  • The Judges' top three finishers were less than a second apart covering the five-kilometer race. Senior Bridget Pickard (Westwood, Mass. / Westwood) led the way in 20th place with a time of 18:38.71. Rookie Katriona Briggs (Menlo Park, Calif. / Menlo-Atherton) was right behind in 21st  in 18:39.00, and junior Juliette Intrieri (North Salem, N.Y. / North Salem) was 22nd in 18:39.20.
  • Junior Lizzy Reynolds (Winchester, Mass. / Winchester) placed 52nd overall with a time of 19:13.75, while sophomore Zada Forde (Leverett, Mass. / Amherst Regional) rounded out the scorers in 76th place with a time of 19:35.47.
  • The team's spread was less than a minute among their top five runners.
  • Pickard broke 19 minutes for the first time in college and improved 12 places from her performance at UMass Dartmouth a year ago.
  • Briggs improved her collegiate best by 34 seconds.
  • Intrieiri also broke 19 minutes for the first time and finished 22nd for the second year in a row at UMD.
  • Forde ran almost the exact same time as she did in 2021 in this race.
  • With 189 points, Brandeis finished 60 behind the top D3 team from WPI and 32 behind sixth-place Conn. College. The Judges were 32 points ahead of Wellesley.

KEY RESULTS – MEN

  • The Brandeis men finished with 421 points to place 17th, running a five-mile race.
  • Leading the way was senior Matthew Driben (Reading, Pa./Wyomissing), who was 36th overall with a time of 25:48.50. He was down 20 spots from a year ago.
  • Junior Willem Goff (Westwood, Mass. / Westwood) came in second for the team, placing 51st with a time of 26:19.27, in his first shot at the UMass Dartmouth course.
  • First-year TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport) was third overall for the Judges with a time of 27:02.34, placing 103rd.
  • Sophomores Lucas Dia (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) and Lucas Frost (Hanover, N.H. / Hanover) rounded out the top five, coming in 112th (27:12.94) and 131st in 27:36.40.
  • The Judges were just eight points shy of 15th place and edged host UMass Dartmouth by two points.
