Gosman Reopening Guidelines

During this early phase of reopening, patrons should expect limited operating hours, capacity and time limits, activity restrictions, space closures, and limited services and amenities.  Please refer to this webpage often for updates.

Please help protect our community by practicing CDC hygiene recommendations, maintaining at least 6 feet physical distancing at all times - 14 feet while exercising - and following all facility policies and procedures.

As of November 2, masks must be worn at all times in the Gosman Center. In the pool area, they may be removed while swimming, but must still be worn on the pool deck.

Spring Semester Hours

 Effective January 31

  • Monday–Thursday: 7AM - 11 PM
  • Friday: 7AM – 8PM
  • Saturday:  10AM – 8PM
  • Sunday:  10AM - 10PM

Winter Break Hours

Nov 30 - Jan 30 (Closed Nov. 21-29)

  • Monday–Friday: 7AM - 8PM
  • Saturday:  10AM – 6PM
  • Sunday:  Closed

Higher-Risk Population Hours

We are designating 7-9am (Mon-Fri) for our “higher-risk” patrons - individuals over 65 and those with underlying health conditions.  

Capacity Limits

Capacity limits will be posted outside each activity space.

Who is allowed to use the athletic facilities?

Only currently active students, faculty, and staff are permitted to use any athletic facilities, indoors or outdoors.  No guests allowed.  No memberships allowed.  Students on a leave of absence are not allowed.

Anyone coming to campus to use the athletic facilities must also have previously completed Brandeis' mandatory safety training for faculty and staff or for students. They must submit Brandeis' Daily Health Assessment and sign up for COVID-19 testing based on the frequency with which they will be on campus.

Face Coverings Required

Following Brandeis University guidelines, a face mask or cloth face covering will be required at all times in the Gosman Center. The lone exception will be made for swimming. Masks must still be be worn on the pool deck, but can be removed upon entry into the pool. 

What to Bring?

  • An active Brandeis ID will be required to enter the facility. ALL patrons must manually swipe an ID to enter. There is no sign-in method available. NO ID = NO ENTRY!
  • Proof (either on your phone or an email printout) that you have a green or yellow campus passport signifying you are cleared to enter campus facilities. NO PROOF = NO ENTRY!
  • Patrons need to bring their own sports equipment (racquets, balls, yoga mats, etc). Equipment checkout is not available.  
  • Only water bottle filling stations are operational.  Water fountains have been shut off.

What is Open?

  Shapiro Gym and Auerbach Arena

  • Individuals and small groups may shoot around while maintaining physical distance. No pickup games allowed of any kind. 
  • Check the website for availability.

  Tennis Courts

  Weight Room

  • Twenty (20) person capacity limit, 90-minute maximum.
  • Reservations must be made in advance at www.brandeisjudges.com/facilities/schedule
  • All patrons must check-in at the Equipment Room window located outside the Weight Room upon arrival.
  • Failure to check-in within 10 minutes after reservation time will result in cancellation.
  • Walk-up patrons will be allowed only if space is available.
  • All equipment must be wiped down before and after each use.
  • Only safe, individual exercises are permitted.  Spotting is not allowed.
  • The weight room will be closed from 2-2:30pm each day to allow for the space to be deep cleaned

  Cardio Machines

  • First come, first served, 30-minute maximum if all machines are in use.
  • Patrons must remain 14 feet apart if waiting for a machine.
  • Cardio machines will be offline from 2:30-3pm each day to allow for the area to be deep cleaned

  Linsey Pool 

  • One (1) swimmer per lane, 60-minute maximum.
  • Lanes must be reserved in advance at www.brandeisjudges.com/facilities/schedule
  • All swimmers must check-in at the Linsey Front Desk upon arrival. 
  • Walk-ups will be allowed only if space is available. 
  • Locker registrations can be made at check-in.

  Indoor and Outdoor Tracks

  • Please check the website for availability.

  Indoor Batting Cage

  Soccer Field

  • No pickup games allowed
  • Check the website for availability.

  Club Sports Field

  • No pickup games allowed.
  • Check the website for availability.

  Baseball and Softball Fields

  • Use requires athletic department approval.

  Fencing Room

  • Use requires athletic department approval.

  Varsity Weight Room

  • Use requires athletic department approval.

  Group Reservations

  • Recognized campus organizations may request space reservations by submitting a Facility Request Form.
  • All group reservations for physical activity are limited to 10 people or less, regardless of space.
  • No group reservations allowed before Labor Day.
  • All groups must comply with all covid-19 safety policies.


What is Closed?

  All Locker Rooms and Showers

  • Patrons must come dressed to workout and must shower at home.  NOTE: swimmers with reservations will be allowed to use the pool locker rooms and showers.  Must maintain a 6-foot physical distance at all times.
