On May 6, the Brandeis Department of Athletics held its annual Student-Athlete Recognition and Award Dinner. Director of Athletics Sheryl Sousa and Dean of Students Rick Sawyer were on hand to give out awards to 10 different student-athletes. Read about the winners here!
Junior Charles Sacks shot the third-lowest round of the tournament on Day 2 of the University Athletic Association championships with an even-par round of 72. It was his career-low round and enabled him to improve eight spots to fifth place, claiming his second All-UAA honor. As a team, the Judges finished in fifth place at the tournament, hosted by the University of Rochester.
For the fourth time in as many tournaments this spring, junior Charles Sacks was the Brandeis golf team's low scorer, shooting a four-over-par 76 at the Worcester State Invitational. Sacks paced the Judges to their fourth third-place finish of 2009-10 in a 16-team field, the largest in which they have placed in the top three this season.
Junior Charles Sacks was the Brandeis golf team's top finisher for the second tournament in a row, shooting a three-over-par 75 at the Western New England College Invitational to tie for third place as an individual. Meanwhile, as a team, the Judges placed third with a team score of 314, just eight strokes behind champions Babson.
Three Brandeis student-athletes have received recent University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week honors. Junior Rachel Rosman was honored for women's tennis for April 5, while senior Chelsea Korp and junior Charles Sacks were recognized for softball and golf, respectively, on April 12.
In their opening tournament of the Spring 2010 season, the Brandeis golf team had a fine performance tying for sixth at the UMass-Dartmouth Hampton Inn Classic with Nichols College. Junior Charles Sacks led the way for the Judges in 17th place with a second-day round of 76.
Sophomore Aaron Cusato had a record-setting performance for the Brandeis golf team at the 2009 NEIGA Championships. Cusato shot even-par 72 to finish in 18th place overall and fourth among Division III competitors as the Judges set a program record by placing 17th overall and seventh among DIII schools.
Junior Charles Sacks earned his third top-10 finish of the season with a three-over-par 75 at the rain-shortened NYU-Manhattanville Invitational this weekend. The Judges finished 10th out of 12 teams at Hampshire Country Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y.
For the second time this season, three Brandeis student-athletes have earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors in the same week. Sophomore Scott Beaulac from the golf team, rookie Steven Milo of men's tennis and junior Paul Norton of men's cross country were all recognized by the association.
Sophomore Scott Beaulac shot a season-best five-over-par 77 to finish in fifth place at the 2009 Nichols College Bison Invitational. Beaulac's round helped the Judges to a tie for fifth place, just one stroke out of third.
The Brandeis golf team finished eighth out of 12 teams at Friday afternoon's Rhode Island College Invitational. All four scorers were within five strokes of each other, paced by Lee Bloom's 79. Bloom tied for 14th overall.
For the second meet in a row, the Brandeis golf team finished in third place, coming in one stroke out of second place at the Elms College Blazer Invitational. Sophomore Aaron Cusato led the way in a tie for sixth place by shooing a 78 (+7).
